IMPROVING TRAFFIC FLOW AND ADDING SUPPORT SPACES

SHIPPENSBURG AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT
Shippensburg Borough, Cumberland & Franklin Counties, PA

Shippensburg Area School District is nearing completion of a two stage construction project at their High School and Middle School campus that will improve the student experience in several ways. K&W has provided civil engineering services for additions to the schools, as well as various site improvements for pedestrian and vehicular circulation.

Recently, six classrooms were added to the south side of the middle school along with an interior corridor. A guidance suite was added with a student commons and a new secure entrance is nearly complete.

Student dining services were expanded in the building, providing a serving space, kitchen and dining area. Performing arts rooms for band, chorus, and storage were added behind the existing auditorium and stage.

Site improvements included a new parent loop at the middle school that will improve safety with a separated bus drop off area. Additional improvements at the middle school increase parking spaces to manage off-hour events. The addition of a nearly 2,200 linear feet of new sidewalk on the high school campus provides additional connectivity for Borough residents.

Building additions at the high school are creating a music classroom and lab behind the stage, a new STEM classroom/laboratory cluster, two small conference rooms, and entry security upgrades.

Geotechnical exploration services, analysis, and reports were provided to the district and architect at both the middle and high schools.
