Optimizing Shared Campus Resources

Conestoga Valley School District
East Lampeter Township, Lancaster County, PA

K&W worked with the District’s architect to design a new 80,000-square-foot Middle School on 40 acres of farmland adjacent to the High School. Once completed, the District’s existing Middle School will be converted into an Elementary facility. K&W conducted site surveys and extensive rock borings to determine the best location for the new building and inform stormwater management.

Creating a new campus next to an existing one presents opportunities to share resources and optimize overall campus function. We worked with the design team and District to thoughtfully connect the two campuses to ensure safe vehicular and pedestrian circulation through new access roads, pathways, and site lighting. We also designed new athletic fields that can be shared by both schools, including two synthetic turf multisport fields next to the existing stadium that are central to both campuses. Three new natural grass fields provide additional physical education and practice space. The new Middle School parking lot and the expansion of the main High School parking lot provide additional capacity for stadium events and sports practices.
