smart site design for growing campus

York Suburban School District
Springettsbury Township, York County, PA

K&W collaborated with the School District and its architect to develop a reimagined site design for a new Intermediate School. On a 10.42-acre campus, the design process carefully evaluated existing traffic patterns, pedestrian circulation, parking, service access, and recreational needs to create a functional and efficient layout.

A key challenge was ensuring that East York Elementary School could remain operational during the new school’s construction. After completion, the old elementary school will be demolished to make way for improved site circulation and amenities.

K&W developed multiple site design options to optimize parking and traffic flow while minimizing impervious cover due to zoning constraints. The final design includes separate bus and parent drop-off loops to enhance safety and eliminate public road backups. A fenced play area featuring both hard and soft surfaces was also incorporated.

K&W provided full permitting services, including Land Development approval through Springettsbury Township and NPDES permitting through the York County Conservation District.
