Natural Grass Athletic Field
Cheyney University is in the process of designing a full indoor sports complex on its campus and was looking to add a NCAA-compliant outdoor track and field area. This multi-sport, natural turf field is a key component of Cheyney’s commitment to improve athletic facilities. K&W is the track and field designer and is a member of the design team who actively collaborates with the lead civil engineer, Honor Engineering.
The natural grass, multi-sport field is designed to host soccer, women’s lacrosse and men’s lacrosse teams. A sand grid drainage system with automated irrigation that supports the field along with channel drains on the inside perimeter of the field.
The area will be upgraded to an eight-lane, 400-meter running track with resilient, synthetic track surfacing, allowing the university to host track tournaments. An 8’ asphalt path wraps around the running track for general accessibility.
New events areas for throws and jumps will also be a part of the design. Field events will include long/triple jump, discus, hammer, shot put, pole vault and javelin.
4’ black vinyl-coated chain link fence surrounds the perimeter for security with single and double swing gates providing access as needed.
