Bedford Area High School
K&W worked with the District’s architect to plan an addition to the high school that resolves the building’s circulation issues and provides a new gymnasium. One problem – the addition encroaches upon the District’s current stadium. The design team saw an opportunity to create a unique combined facility by reinventing the stadium and integrating it with the high school. The new circulation wing is tied directly to the new stadium, providing views of the field from inside the school and spectator use of restrooms and concessions in the new wing. Teams can also easily access the new gym locker rooms from the field.
Designers reworked other aspects of the campus as well. A new bus loop will improve traffic flow between the high school and middle school. The main parking lot was redesigned and two new parking and drop off areas were added. The stadium’s entrance was reoriented to provide better ADA access and connect it to the new parking areas.
