Triple Team Effort to Plan Facility Upgrades

City of Hermitage, Hermitage Little League, and Penn State Shenango
Mercer County, Pa

Studies were completed to create a master plan for an NCAA-compliant baseball field for three major stakeholders in Hermitage. The Hermitage Little League complex, owned by the city, utilizes natural grass fields for all their parks. Penn State Shenango is developing a baseball program and required an NCAA competition facility. Our team worked with the city, the little league, and Penn State Shenango to evaluate an existing baseball field and support buildings over 12 acres to determine future athletic program needs.

The resulting plan upgrades a field that will be primarily used by Penn State Shenango. The new synthetic turf field will need a warning track and new fence padding, pitch clock, dugouts, bullpens, batting cages, and fencing. Minor outfield drainage issues will be corrected before synthetic turf is installed. The baseball field currently is not lighted. Electrical service will need updated to install lighting that complies with NCAA Best Lighting Practices guidelines.

Existing support buildings will be fully renovated or reconstructed to house restrooms, meeting spaces, storage, and concessions. Current spectator seating is not accessible for visitors using mobility devices. The new design includes grandstand seating that is fully ADA compliant with clear routes for guests.
