3rd Annual K&W TecPort 5K a Success!

Jun 25, 2009

Despite rain and clouds the spirit and mission of the 3rd Annual K&W TecPort Run/Walk, to provide funding assistance to those in need, continued this Fathers Day weekend.  Tom Wilson of K&W Engineers and Consultants, and Diane Voda of Crossgates, Inc. want to thank the nearly 200 sponsors, participants and volunteers for their outstanding efforts and support.  A special appreciation is extended to the Platinum Sponsor this year; Alex R. Szeles, Inc., the Gold sponsors; Associated Products; First National Bank; and the Harrisburg Mall; and to Swatara Township police, administration, and public works staff for their cooperation in the coordination of the event.

"In this economic climate it is even more important for neighbors to reach out and help neighbors" said Voda.  For the third year this family event benefited residents of the Woodside Family Center, a work release program for incarcerated women located at the Dauphin County Prison, and clients of Gaudenzia, a drug and alcohol treatment center with an adolescent facility located adjacent to the TecPort Business Center. The proceeds from this year's event in union with prior years have raised nearly $18,000 for these local social service agencies.  "We are committed to the continuance of our mission and are planning for a bright and sunny June 19, 2010 event", said Wilson.

"Gaudenzia appreciates the friendship of K&W Engineers and Crossgates and their commitment to our mission. The proceeds we will receive from the 5K Run/Walk support Gaudenzia Chambers Hill, a treatment a program for adolescents struggling to overcome the ravages of drug and alcohol addictions. We are very thankful for the financial support of sponsors, participants and volunteers that donated to this year's event. Each runner, walker and contributor took a step to ensure that there is support for individuals and families struggling with the disease of addiction. If you know someone that needs help, please contact Gaudenzia at (888) 237-8984 or visit http://www.gaudenzia.org/."" says Julie E. Girsch, Gaudenzia Community Affairs Manager.

"The Woodside Family Center would like to thank everyone involved in the third annual K&W TecPort 5K Run/Walk.  The event proceeds have enabled us to continue expanding on our program and enhancing our facility for mothers and children during visitation stays in order to keep families together through difficult times.  We are proud and excited to be a part of the annual K&W TecPort 5K event", said Valerie Simmons, Woodside Family Center PROGRAM CEO.

Pretzel City Sports provided timing services and equipment for the event.  Over 40 volunteers assisted and cheered the runners and walkers on.  Numerous area businesses provided door prizes including a weekend stay at the Hilton Garden Inn, "Bagel for a Year" Panera Bread certificate, Moe's Southwest Grille and Tuscano's restaurant gift certificates, Great Escape movie passes, and more.
